Kitchen 54 Review

Kitchen 54 is an amazing hidden gem in South London's not so glamourous Peckham.

The first time the Mr and I went to Kitchen 54, there was a nice selection of old school soul and rare groove music setting the scene for the laid back evening ahead.

Kitchen 54 is a casual restaurant, which serves up some good ol' American soul food.

Expect to see American delights such as hush puppies, sloppy Joe's and mac n cheese on the menu.
Plus the dish that initially drove me down to Kitchen 54. Chicken and waffles!

If you enjoy chicken and waffles then you'll love Kitchen 54. There salads and wings are yum too.

The Kitchen 54 menu has me craving right now! If you live locally you're in luck, as Kitchen 54 deliver!

The chicken and waffles at Kitchen 54 didn't
disappoint. Soft, mildly sweetened waffles come served with tender, juicy fried chicken and maple syrup. The fried chicken is nicely seasoned. Not annoyingly plain like some places.

I wouldn't order the mac and cheese at Kitchen 54 again, as it's just ok. I do come from a family that make a mean mac n cheese though, so it'll be hard to contend with us! The mac and cheese at Kitchen 54 is more like mac and mayo. They use a creamy cheese and I feel that flavour is lacking. The Philly Joe mac comes with mince meat, but there isn't enough of it.

The fried wings and chicken strips from Kitchen 54 are tender and juicy. The best sauces in my opinion are the sour buffalo sauce and the black mamba sauce. Black mamba is sweet and flavoursome with a light spice. The garlic sauce is my least favourite as it's pretty bland.

I had a delicious avocado salad at Kitchen 54, and I'm not even a big salad fan. However, when a salad is done right.. I'm in lurrve! The Kitchen 54 avocado salad comes drizzled in a tasty black mamba dressing. I would definitely get this salad again.

The waffle burger isn't too bad, but not the best waffle burger I've ever had. The chips at Kitchen 54 are basic.

I would re-visit Kitchen 54, but only to try out their s'mores waffle dessert, and to re-live the chicken and waffles with an avocado salad.
