The Columbia Road Flower Market - Exploring My Hometown

This was my second visit to the Columbia Road Flower market in London. I'd been last summer at a later time - Roughly an hour and a half before closing.

This time around I'd arrived at about 9am. Only an hour after opening. Both visits to Columbia Road Flower Market were equally as packed! That's the only down side to a visit here. Don't let that put you off though!

The array of
plants and flowers on sale are fantastic. The reasonable prices are great too. Everybody knows how expensive the city of London can be!

The sea of colours in this often dull city are sure to put a smile on your face. You can even ask a stall owner to take a photo of you behind the flowers if you're feeling up to it.

Thanks to Instagram pictures of Columbia Road Flower Market I knew what I was after before I came. Unlike last time.

On my first Columbia Road Flower Market visit J and I opted for a pretty palm tree. My fave type of tree next to the Bonsai! It was so reasonably priced. As I glance over to it in my kitchen almost a year later it's sadly starting to yellow a little. But hopefully it will be just fine.

I also brought a bunch of chilli's, because I'm too hot for flowers haha! It was pretty cool to see chilli's being sold at Columbia Road Flower Market. They have long thin stems like flowers and look great as a feature on a mantle piece at home.

Having a chef in the house is great too, because once those chilli's finally start to die out they can be used for food in so many different ways. They looked pretty on my kitchen ledge for about a month!
I paired the chilli's with some white and red roses.

This time around I was after some lovely tulips. They tend to be cheaper than roses and look just as pretty. I was a bit indecisive about exactly which colours to go home with so I went a bit overboard and got a colourful mix. It was quite a hefty bunch to carry. Once I'd purchased them we made our way out, as they were heavy and I didn't want them getting crushed.

I also wanted some mini pink pineapples that I had spotted someone with on my last journey to the Columbia Road Flower Market. They make such a unique purchase and the friendly lady at the stall told us that once the pineapples dry out they'll still look pretty - albeit a little darker in colour.

There are also cacti and tall plants on sale at the Columbia Road Flower market. Along with places to eat nearby.

If you get to the Columbia Road flower market near closing time you can probably save even more money. The stall owners tend to lower their prices a bit so that they can get rid of their blooms.

The Columbia Road Flower Market is open on Sundays 8am - 2pm
