Melba At The Savoy Review With Photos Of My Purchases

Not satisfied with yesterday's sweet treats I decided to check out Melba At The Savoy. I arrived at Melba just after 11am. A bit later than I'd initially planned. After going toe to toe with dull wet weather outside I was met with a frosty reception inside. Shelves were only just being stocked and the service I received was poor. One server looked over at me and it seemed she had dropped her smile on the floor!

Melba is small with three stools near a window - suitable for a quick stop. Melba At The Savoy is sleek and typically Parisian in style, with lots of black.

I scoped four eclairs at £2.95 each. A mango flavour eclair, salted caramel eclair, meringue eclair, and dark chocolate eclair with coconut. I had to literally ask both servers for information on the items and I received rushed through responses. I could say more about the service - or lack of, but I'll leave it at that. After all, things began to look up
- As Melba make really delicious sweet treats - THANK GOD!

I purchased a meringue eclair and a salted caramel eclair. Plus a meringue cupcake and oreo cupcake. They also had a meringue tart which i decided not to buy - Maybe next time.

The lemon meringue eclair has a smooth, thick center of zesty lemon. The meringue on top is very light and airy. It's a lot softer than I had expected, but just as tasty as one would expect. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this eclair again.

The salted caramel eclair contains the perfect amount of salt. Just a slight pinch amidst the thick, creamy caramel filling. The top glaze is a tasty non-salted caramel. The little brown balls are crispy chocolate, with a unique taste of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Plus, there are caramel marshmallow pieces on top. This eclair is so delish!

The oreo cupcake is stunning. Absolutely stunning. A perfectly moist dark chocolate sponge hides beneath a mountain of smooth, buttery buttercream. The cream has a welcome hint of lemon, and stands at least 3 inches tall! Mixed into the butter cream of dreams, are a generous amount of soft oreo pieces. If all that isn't enough, the cake center is filled with smooth chocolate. I'm literally in cupcake heaven!

Not sure if real oreo was used, but if so, how do they get them to taste so soft with just the perfect amount of bite???

Finally, the lemon meringue cupcake - I didn't actually know it was lemon meringue. The "ever so helpful" server must have forgotten to tell me. It was nice, but I wasn't blown away by it. The sponge itself is average quality and I like my meringue crunchier. This meringue was more like a sweet frothy milk.

I'll definitely return to Melba At The Savoy and I'll throw a tantrum on the floor if there are no Oreo cupcakes!
